About
Monkey Temple is one of the first Nepali alternative rock bands and one of the first from Nepal to be featured on MTV South Asia. The band was originally formed in the corridors of St. Xavier's School, Kathmandu, by guitarist Subodh Gurung and vocalist Sareen Deoja in 1998. The current lineup includes Sareen Deoja on vocals and guitar, Dipesh Shrestha on guitar, Jenish Maharjan on bass, and Pratap Risal on drums. They recorded their first full-length album "Black Bee & the Flower" in 2001, which won them a dedicated following in Kathmandu's rock scene. Their song "Anumati" became the first Nepali video featured on MTV South Asia in 2012, a huge success for the band. Among their many accolades are Hits FM awards and nominations in Kantipur National awards. They have toured internationally among Nepalese diaspora communities in the United Kingdom, Australia, and India, as well as performing extensively throughout Nepal, winning the hearts of millions at home and abroad.
